Setting Class Types

Intro / Overview: With Instrukt, you'll use class types to categorize your classes and define which instructors are approved to sub each one. The system is flexible and built to grow with your studio - you can add classes and instructors over time with minimal reconfiguration.

The Set Studio Class Types setting controls which class types are visible to you when you set up your classes and instructors.

How class types work: Assigning class types groups your classes and instructors together to define sub eligibility. An instructor must be assigned every class type on a class to be eligible to sub it.

For example, if a class is assigned "Yoga - Vinyasa" class type, only instructors who also have "Yoga - Vinyasa" class type assigned to them will see its sub requests. If you offer a prenatal Vinyasa class which only some of your staff are qualified to teach, assign it two class types: "Yoga - Vinyasa" and "Prenatal/Postnatal". Now only your Vinyasa instructors who are also qualified to teach a prenatal class will see the sub request.

Studio Class Types (filtering your setup view) The class types available to you when configuring classes and instructors are controlled by the Set Studio Class Types setting. Use this to limit what appears during setup and keep your workflow focused.

To set your Studio Class Types:

  1. Tap the menu icon (☰) in the upper left and select Settings.
  2. Tap Set Studio Class Types.
  3. Select the class types you plan to use. A checkmark indicates a class type is active.
  4. Tap the back arrow when finished.

When configuring class types, less is (usually) more; Use the minimum number of class types needed to create the instructor groupings you require - not to describe every attribute of a class.

Only add a class type when it narrows the eligible instructor pool in a meaningful way. If every instructor approved for a class already shares the same class type, one is enough. A second class type is only needed when you need to restrict eligibility to a smaller subset.

Think of it this way: if adding a class type wouldn't change who is eligible, you probably don't need another class type.

⚠ Important notes

  • Class type settings are visible to owners and studio managers only.
  • Class type settings in Instrukt have no effect on any MINDBODY settings.
  • Assign classes only the class types needed to create the right eligibility distinctions — keep it lean.
  • Assign instructors all class types you approve them to teach.
